Rebecca Kinsey is an artist, graphic designer, word-nerd, and occasional pirate currently based in Byron Bay, Australia. She began her career as a graphic designer, graduating from Sydney Graphics College, followed by an internship at the Powerhouse Museum (Sydney, Australia). Originally a self-taught painter, she completed a degree in Visual Arts at Southern Cross University (2010), majoring in painting with minor studies in drawing, screenprinting, papermaking and photography. Recent explorations have seen her moving into a very process driven multimedia practice, with a keen interest in video. She is a recent recipient of an Australia Council ArtStart Grant with which she fulfilled a Summer Residency Program in Sculpture, Installation and New Media Art at the School of Visual Arts (SVA) in Chelsea, NYC in 2011. She has spent most of April and June (2012) in New York, working with Brooklyn based artist, Hannah Lamar Simmons, on their collaborative project paperJAM. They have recently completed a second time in residence together at The Art Students League of New York working on a new project, Touch (Off the Grid) which they have just installed at FIGMENT NYC, a participatory arts festival on Governor's Island in New York. Rebecca has just returned to Australia to open her solo show, titled UnRavelling, at the Tweed River Art Gallery (June 29 - August 12).
